Free tree?

It was very windy in our neighborhood over the last couple of says. Particularly, or so it would seem, on Friday.

When we moved in to our house in 2009, we put in the obligatory 7 trees and 22 shrubs.  They were all purchased from the same nursery.  In true Charlie Brown fashion, a tiny twig in a five-gallon bucket caught Dave's eye.  The man at the nursery said he had no idea what kind of tree it was, and that Dave could take it for free if he could fit it in the truck.

Free?  Oh, yeah.  There was room.

It turned into this.

Five years later, our gorgeous purple locust succumbed to Mother Nature and split down the middle.
We were heading out to Sarah's graduation from Salt Lake Community College when we noticed the bulk of the tree resting comfortably on the lawn.  The sad remainder was leaning toward its fallen limb, bravely weathering the dwindling breeze.

That afternoon, chainsaw in hand, Dave and I chopped up the limb, reducing our towering shade master to a pile of rubble.

So long, pretty tree.  We’ll take care of what’s left of you.
